  1. There are fewer and fewer “street corners” in today’s fragmented world, fewer places where people from different cultures, races, religions and perspectives come together in any meaningful way.

And of course meaningful means indoctrinated into Critical Race Theory and the 1619 deception.

  2. The “as usual” comment betrays a bias from Shiela Suess Kennedy. But let’s just stay with “issues only”.

In answer to the question “So why do our legislators continue sending Hoosier tax dollars to private schools, rather than spending to improve public education?”, it could be a simple matter of “trust”. Perhaps legislators don’t trust the public schools/ ISTA to use the funds efficiently to deliver results that are a good value (what is produced for what is paid).

If Ms. Kennedy is attempting to make a point about Indiana policy, why does she cite data for Louisiana?

Citing a Huffpost and Salon study, again betrays a biased agenda as far as many are concerned. And if Ms. Kennedy and a colleague want to provide research, name the colleague. That is basic research and reporting fundamentals, vs. tabloid style communication. Without referenced sources, no reader can assess the validity of information provided.

Some might argue that there are fewer and fewer street corners for honest “civil discourse” because public education, including university level education, has been hijacked by liberal progressives that have an agenda to indoctrinate students to their way of thinking only. Ms. Kennedy and her “colleagues” may want to consider if their perceived “declining civic cohesion” could be due to presumptions on their part that they know what is best for everyone else. Some may find that position to not only be arrogant and indefensible, but also to be a major reason we experience “declining civic cohesion”.
