  1. “Indiana reports 630 new COVID-19 cases on decline in testing” Yet another misleading/sensationalized headline from the IBJ, are you guys taking your cues from CNN/MSNBC now!? For those of us that can actually do math, let’s look at the numbers, 630 new positive cases divided by 7,464 new tests equals an 8.4% positive rate. So, on a day when there was a “decline in testing” the daily positive rate is still 1/2% below the cumulative positive rate of 8.9%. That is Good News, unless you like/want to spread fear porn like the IBJ! (and the fact that the cumulative rate keeps declining is Great News!) The implication that the number of positive tests were down because the daily tests given were down doesn’t work if you actually do the math! Besides that, More Testing means More Positive results, say that over and over again until it sinks in IBJ. And now, let’s look at the hospital stats that nobody seems to care about anymore because it doesn’t fit the fear porn narrative: 1) 43% of ICU beds available, 57% in use, but only 11% being used by Covid patients, 2) 85% available ventilators, 15% in use, but only 2% being used by Covid patients. This is also all Good News! Sarcasm above fully intended and directed at the IBJ.

    1. A ten word factual headline triggered you into sending a 200+ word angry rant using selective data, poor statistical conclusions, and overuse of the phrase “fear porn”. Breath deep (preferably with a mask). In my opinion, IBJ is the best remaining local news source in the market. I appreciate their in-depth news coverage, investigative journalism, and articles on the impact of the global pandemic on the local business community. IBJ; please keep up the good unbiased work.

    2. Derek G., I fully agree with your comment that the “IBJ is the best remaining local news source.” However, they are clearly not unbiased on their Covid coverage. Last week the headline was “Indiana sets and all-time daily high in positive tests” on a day when there were over 12,000 tests given. I had to ask if it was also an all-time high in testing, which you would have thought would be good information to report! They did reply that it was the fourth highest day of testing. Poor statistical conclusions, which one(s)? It’s just math.

    3. Yes, glad IBJ doesn’t give equal time to the misinformation. That’s not how it’s supposed to work.

More positive tests eventually ends up with more hospitalizations which eventually ends up with more deaths. You don’t wait until ICU’s are full to implement restrictions, by then it’s far too late. Look at how it’s playing out in other states. It would be criminally negligent at this point to assume that things in Indiana would play out differently.

We will continue to stay locked down until the positivity rate on testing gets back under 5%. Stop fighting the numbers, it’s just math. Wash your hands, stay home as much as you can, socially distance when you go out, and wear a mask when you can’t distance. That’s the recipe for winning against the virus.

  2. There is a Hospital near my House with tents set up for drive in testing. It is mostly empty. Usually there is just one car in line.

Yesterday, the staff was sitting on chairs looking at their phones or reading.

Has everyone who needs the test been tested?
