yes, the nubmer of positives on today’s report was 1,962 – please see the fine print showing this as over FOUR DAYS, so 491 daily total on average. Yesterday’s total was 1,172 over TWO DAYS, a 586 daily total on average. MSM will only show you the total to bring/incite panic…..
Come on IBJ, match the headline to the data.
Not true. These are NEWLY REPORTED positives, where the positive result may have occurred sometime over the last 4 days, but are only reported one time, today.
Craig S. nice of you to spout the IBJ company line. The IBJ has always fallen back to that “what was reported in the last 24 hours” line, which is “true”, as you say, technically. But, if there was four days worth of data reported in one day, wouldn’t that skew the data, and therefore your “truth”? Another example, the 23 deaths mentioned above is actually a cumulation reported over a 17 day period. Wouldn’t that knowledge be good to know, and also possibly change your thoughts? The IBJ is just lazy (best case scenario) in not presenting all the data, and have made a mockery of themselves with weekly, sometimes daily, sensationalized headlines. (which has been pointed out by many readers, including myself)
Craig S. if you want to see what real data looks like, go to the ISDH dashboards: https://www.coronavirus.in.gov/2393.htm
Ronna, how are you coming up with that? The only place “4 days” is mentioned is in the number of people tested. There have been occasions when the daily positive number has been inflated by old test results. On those days, it is noted as such. That does not appear to be the case here, and even then you don’t divide by the number of days the test dates cover. I agree the media loves fear porn, but unless you have other data, that does not appear to be the case here.
Rod B., I AM looking at the state website, exactly as you suggest, are you?
It doesn’t really matter how may people test positive on any particular day, just that we have a reporting method that tallies the data and shares it with us. There are 1962 new b positives being reported today that have occurred in the last 4 days. They were reported yesterday, after the weekend, from facilities large and small across the state. It doesn’t seem that hard to understand.
There are 23 COVID-caused deaths being reported today for the first time. Sure, maybe some are two weeks old, but based on data we’ve seen in the past, the vast majority occurred in the past few days and are being reported for the first time now.
Getting the data now is better than never, right? Unless you’re of the belief that we should just stop testing and reporting so it all “goes away, like a miracle” I suppose.
They are using the word “reported” here which is the accurate term. The IBJ is not implying that all of the positive results came back yesterday, but that they were reported yesterday. Regardless, we have 1962 new Hoosiers with COVID, so what does this ridiculous bickering do to help that?
Don’t focus on just a daily report. The more important information is found on the 7-day trend line. That indicates a rising rate of infections that this is not going away.
Thank you for facts Ronna! Too bad the news won’t provide it straight.
You are the virus, Co-Ronna!
Go to the state website to get the data for yourself and reach your conclusions from there.
The appearance of facts to sell a story rather than use the facts to show what’s happening. Shameless and despicable reporting. A practice that erodes credibility. Portraying cumulative data as daily data should be something that is forbidden.
Once again, and over and over, how can you trust anything the media says/prints?! If there is an occupation or profession (I question whether or not to even use the word profession because there is nothing professional about today’s media) that needs to be overhauled and infused with Integrity and ethics It is the media. They all lie and distort the information and facts to support their selfish agenda/narrative. I paid for this digital subscription but the IBJ is as bad as all the other media outlets…goodbye IBJ!!
We have reported cases, deaths and testing on a consistent basis daily since the beginning of the pandemic, and we always provide a link to the health department website so readers can take a deeper look at the numbers if they choose to do so. We also go beyond that and show the cumulative numbers for cases and testing every day, and the daily increase in those numbers, so readers can see how many cases and tests are eliminated from the totals every day. We have always made this clear: the daily case and testing numbers are newly reported cases that were received by the health department in the 24-hour period ending at 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The fact is, there are 1,962 new COVID-19 cases that we just found out about today. That is the daily count of new cases.
Thank you for presenting us with facts. The breakdown of numbers on IBJ is a lot more useful than many of the media outlets in Indiana.
The scam continues that as long as the government keeps the payments coming in assistance money to medical facilities for each new COVID case, every illness is going to be reported as COVID-19.
Seasonal allergies as normal peak this time of year and now they’ve become COVID now.
Talk to the boots on the ground in the hospitals.
They’re not seeing these big numbers but as soon as they turn in a patient’s paperwork, on each patient, it’s those at the higher end of the chain spinning the data for cash as to why there needs to be audits done to correct the numbers and prosecute the fraud.
The IBJ is a very Left leaning publication that always promotes and gleefully participates in the Leftist and Liberal propagandas.
