Good for iPS. Although I’m not optimistic they can stop this state sponsored stealing of taxpayer property.
Bravo IPS!
This $1 law bootstraps IPS, correct? The market value on these properties is massive (especially right now). Selling and INVESTING that money into other school locations makes sense too me. I don’t understand schools but I do understand RE.
It would be helpful to readers to know which court and Judge will be handling this case.
The Mind Trust and their billionaire backers are dead-set on destroying traditional public education in Indianapolis. Why, for instance, did Bill Gates drop a quarter-million dollars into a recent IPS board election? No surprise that they have partnered with the same breed of Indianapolis-hating legislators who long ago killed this state’s banking industry. Surely their next move will be to pour even more out-of-district money into the upcoming IPS board election for their puppet candidates. They are truly a malign force in the Indianapolis community.
I stand behind IPS on this, this puts charter schools at a definite advantage being able to acquire a school for $1. These schools should be put on the market and sold at market prices to the highest offer.
1) Finally! IPS should not have to sell a valuable piece of real estate for $1 to anyone for any reason.
2) Having said that, there should be a limit to the number of buildings IPS keeps in inventory. They are an educational institution, not real estate brokers. They need to set a limit that includes both square footage and time empty factors and not let the buildings go without maintenance until they are worthless.
3) Charter schools should not have an special privileges when it comes to teaching space. They should be able to rent space at a reasonable rate from IPS if both parties are amenable to that.
4) IPS needs to forward taxpayer funds to charter schools for the students attending the charter schools.
