The Ivy Tech Community College board of trustees has voted to freeze tuition and mandatory fees for the next two academic years, the college announced Thursday.

The move follows recommendations from Gov. Mike Braun and the Indiana Commission for Higher Education for all public higher education institutions to keep tuition flat.

In-state tuition for full-time students taking 12 or more credit hours will remain at $2,577.11 per semester, the college said. Tuition for part-time students will remain at $178.39 per credit hour.

Out-of-state tuition rates will also remain unchanged.

Ivy Tech President Sue Ellspermann said in a news release that the move reflects the college’s commitment to putting students first.

“Holding tuition flat builds on our years of work to improve affordability, access, and completions for students, and that effort has brought positive outcomes for the state,” said Ellspermann.

Ivy Tech joins other institutions, including Purdue University, Indiana University, and the University of Southern Indiana that are proposing a two-year freeze on tuition.

The board’s action comes about a week after Ivy Tech announced it is eliminating more than 200 positions at its campuses throughout the state as a result of a 5% budget cut approved by the Indiana General Assembly earlier this year.

Ivy Tech is the third-largest college in Indiana, with more than 6,500 employees at 45 locations across the state.
