Irsay, who died May 21 at age 65, will become the 20th honoree inducted into the ring.
The Colts said they were developing additional opportunities for fans to remember Irsay’s legacy in the weeks leading into the home opener and would share more information this summer. The Colts made the announcement about the induction on what would have been Irsay’s 66th birthday.
“There was no bigger advocate for the Colts, the NFL, the city of Indianapolis and the state of Indiana than our dad, Jim Irsay,” Colts Owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon said in written remarks. “It’s only fitting that he now joins the other amazing Colts legends in our Ring of Honor who contributed so much to our franchise and our community over the past four decades.”
Irsay led the Colts as owner for nearly 30 years, a period during which the team earned 10 division championships, two AFC championships and the club’s fourth world championship with a victory in Super Bowl XLI. His daughters, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt and Kalen Jackson, have taken over leadership of the club.
