  1. I bought my first home for $220k a decade ago, in a 1970s neighborhood near an elementary school, when my wife and I were getting married in our late 20s. That house is now nearly $450k and the neighborhood is entirely unaffordable to anyone that stage of life. It’s a tragedy.
