Moe’s Southwest Grill slashed its presence in Indiana by closing eight of 17 restaurants in the state, including two locations in Indianapolis and three others in the city’s suburbs.

The fast-casual Mexican chain provided a status update for its Hoosier restaurants on its web site, where the Indianapolis shops as well as Moe’s in Fishers, Noblesville, Lebanon, Muncie, West Lafayette and Fort Wayne are listed as being closed.

A spokesperson for Focus Brands, the parent company of Moe’s Southwest Grill, said the two Indianapolis restaurants and locations in Fishers, Noblesville and Lebanon are “temporarily closed.”

“Moe’s Southwest Grill locations in the greater Indianapolis area are independently owned and operated franchise locations,” the spokesperson said in an email statement. “A number of factors go into the decision to close a location.”

In Indianapolis, Moe’s served burritos, tacos and bowls at 910 W. 10th St. and 7853 U.S 31 South.

In Fort Wayne, one Moe’s location closed while another remains open. The West Lafayette restaurant at 332 E. State St. closed, while a Moe’s at 170 S. Creasy Lane in Lafayette remains open.

The website for Moe’s, founded as a brand in Atlanta in 2000, offered no explanation for the closures.

In addition to locations in Fort Wayne and Lafayette, Moe’s continues to operate in Zionsville, Westfield, Angola, Evansville, Marion, Terre Haute and Warsaw.

  1. Hi.

This is the result of a franchisee closing all his stores. Not a decision by Moes to leave indiana. Come visit us on Michigan road at our West Carmel/Zionsville location. Thx.

    1. The IBJ is one of the only websites where I read the comments because people like you who are involved in the story will post additional information in them. Thanks! Will go to the Mich Rd location for lunch, you’ve solved the “what do I want to eat” conundrum for today.

    1. The one in Noblesville on 146th is relatively new. With Costco going in there, it should be a prime location. I’d like to see that one come back as a Moe’s.

  2. I eat at the Michigan Rd location almost once a week!! I think Moe’s is a great value and the food is
good!! Sorry the stores are closing but very glad Zionsville is staying open!!
