Noblesville-based Telemetry Sports, whose customer base includes 80% of all NFL teams, has been acquired by Durham, North Carolina-based sports tech firm Teamworks Innovations.

The deal closed June 5. Telemetry and Teamworks declined to disclose financial terms.

Founded by Jeremy Hochstedler in 2016, Telemetry uses artificial intelligence, video, tracking analytics and other technology to help football programs with player evaluation, scouting, recruiting and game planning.

The acquisition establishes Telemetry as the coaching division of Teamworks. Coaching is the fourth division for Teamworks, which also offers products focused on team personnel, performance and operations.

“We really filled a niche that [Teamworks] didn’t have,” Hochstedler said. “We’re excited to join up and make this an awesome partnership going forward.”

Mark Morris, general manager of North American operations at Teamworks, agreed: “This fills a critical piece of the puzzle for Teamworks.”

Pre-acquisition, Telemetry had 15 employees, all of them in central Indiana except for one Fort Wayne-based remote employee. All 15 remain with the company post-acquisition.

“Our group is staying put here in Noblesville,” said Hochstedler whose new role in the combined company is general manager of coaching products.

Telemetry landed its first NFL customer in 2016. Today, the company’s technology is used by 25 of the NFL’s 32 teams, as well as by the NFL’s league office. Telemetry also counts more than 20 college football programs as customers, including 20% of the teams in the collegiate athletic conferences known as the Power 4: The Big Ten, Big 12, the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conference.

Teamworks, which launched in 2004, had about 460 employees in 11 different countries before the Telemetry acquisition. The company has a customer base of more than 6,500 organizations, including collegiate, professional, Olympic and nationally governed teams as well as military organizations.

Teamworks has secured a total of $165 million in venture investment to date, most recently a $65 million Series E funding round announced in 2023.
