  1. A real shame. The site and surrounding area have so much potential. Once again, Zionsville squandered a great opportunity to do something special at the gateway to the village.

    1. I’m not sure I agree. Considering the property has been vacant for 14 years and an eyesore at that, I think this is a great improvement. Sounds like between the zoning and the price, the town didn’t want much to do with owning it, so what were you expecting someone to come in and do?

    2. Getting the land back on the tax rolls is most important. Gateways have become a trendy exercise with high maintenance costs for the cities with no return. The article in the Current showing a round a bout will suffice for any gateway desires.

    3. Apparently some of you either are not aware , or forgot that two well established local developers tried to get approvals for high-quality mixed-use developments that included this property a few years ago. The “Village People” had a melt down and put pressure on the town to deny approval. Both of these projects would have had a vey positive influence on the town, not dissimilar to some similar developments in Carmel’s City Center. Just another missed opportunity for Z’ville.

    As one of the “Village People” the melt down as you say was because what was being proposed was a multi story apartment complex similar to what is ruining Broadripple. It was not just the people in the village opposed to this development. A very large number of residents throughout Zionsville objected to this monstrosity. Just because something has not been developed over a long time period doesn’t mean you have to compromise on what finally does get done. The current proposal is better then what was being proposed but could still use some improvement to make it more asthetically compatible with the other buildings along Main Street.
