The Indiana Municipal Power Agency in Carmel announced Wednesday that it received a $5 million federal grant to retrofit streetlights in 20 communities to which it provides power.

The grant, received through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, is expected to help the communities collectively save about $320,000 annually by retrofitting more than 6,800 street lights to make them more energy efficient.

The 20 IMPA member communities participating in the grant are Brooklyn, Crawfordsville, Dunreith, Frankton, Greendale, Greenfield, Huntingburg, Lawrenceburg, Lebanon, Lewisville, Linton, Middletown, Paoli, Rising Sun, Scottsburg, Tell City, Tipton, Walkerton, Washington, and Winamac.

IMPA is a not-for-profit that provides wholesale power to 52 communities in Indiana and one in Ohio that serve about 320,000 customers.
