This week, the local manufacturer was awarded a $49 million contract modification to provide 24 engines for the U.S. Air Force’s CV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft. The Department of Defense announced the deal Monday.
Work, which will be performed in Oakland, Calif., and Indianapolis, is expected to be complete in April 2012.
Rolls Royce’s Indianapolis manufacturing facility employs about 4,300, making the British aerospace firm the city’s second-largest manufacturer behind Eli Lilly and Co. In the past year, the local facility has landed more than $500 million in government work.
Last week, it won a $121.4 million Navy contract to provide 58 engines for the MV-22 Osprey.
