Subscribe NowOld Dominion Freight Line Inc., one of the largest freight carriers in the country, announced Wednesday that it plans to add 183 jobs by 2014 as part of a $22 million expansion of its regional hub in Indianapolis.
Thomasville, N.C.-based Old Dominion said the investment will be used to upgrade its existing 122,340-square-foot facility at 3915 W. Morris St. on the southwest side.
As part of the expansion, Old Dominion will increase its service center from 223 doors to 325 doors, making it one of the company’s largest centers.
Old Dominion will begin hiring at an average wage of $20 per hour over the next few months for a variety of positions, including drivers, mechanics and dispatchers.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. said it will provide Old Dominion up to $750,000 in performance-based tax credits and $100,000 in training grants based on the company's job-creation plans. The city of Indianapolis will consider additional property-tax abatements.
“Indianapolis is an important location for us, and this expanded facility will help us handle the increased freight volumes we've seen from customers,” Old Dominion President and CEO David Congdon said in a prepared statement.
Founded in 1934, Old Dominion is a “less-than-truckload” carrier that provides warehousing and distribution services for companies worldwide.
The company operates 213 service centers nationwide and maintains several regional hubs, including the Indianapolis location.
