Free book giveaway—and you are the giver

Like the me of a week ago, you probably have no idea what World Book Night is. But now that I know about it, participation seems a no-brainer. Here's the rundown:

1. You sign up here. 

2. You pick one of thirty books, including "Friday Night Lights," "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," "The Hunger Games," "A Prayer for Owen Meany," "The Kite Runner" and "The Stand." (I picked Kate DiCamillo's wonderful "Because of Winn-Dixie," in memory of my daughter, who insisted I read it.)

3. You come to a gathering at April at Big Hat Books in Broad Ripple and pick up a case of that book (at no charge).

4. You distribute those books to teens or adults that you know who are not frequent readers.

5. That's it. For no cost, you become a literary Santa.

I'll be one of the guest authors at the Big Hat Books event along with John Green, Scott Russell Sanders and others and I'd love to see dozens if not hundreds of IBJ readers participating.

To be clear: There is no cost. But you must register as a giver by Feb. 1.
