The Alexander Hotel at CityWay in downtown Indianapolis has achieved LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a program in which projects can achieve different levels of certification based on the amount of green features.

The Alexander, developed by Buckingham Cos., achieved a silver designation for its vegetated open space, low-flow guestroom and restroom faucets, and reuse of crushed concrete and asphalt to support the building’s foundation, among other sustainable efforts.

The 209-room hotel opened in January 2013 and is part of Buckingham’s CityWay development that includes apartments and 40,000 square feet of retail space.

About 35 projects in the Indianapolis area have achieved some sort of LEED certification, according to Green Building Wire.
