Pence hosts conservatives for Indiana tax summit

Gov. Mike Pence is hosting a group of state and national tax experts to consider ways to overhaul the state's tax code.

Conservative thought leaders Grover Norquist and Arthur Laffer are headlining Pence's tax summit. The summit is set to run all day Tuesday.

Pence has made tax cuts centerpieces of both legislative agendas he has submitted since taking office nearly a year and half ago. However, despite the Republican Party's dominance of the General Assembly, Pence has struggled to get everything he has sought.

A proposed cut in the income tax was dialed back last year, as was a proposed elimination of the state's tax on business equipment. Lawmakers instead pushed their own proposed cuts, including the elimination of the state's inheritance tax.
