Shelley Triol will take over the role formerly held by Christy Denault, who resigned citing family reasons, The Indianapolis Star reported.
Triol has worked for WTHR-TV Channel 13 and WXIN-TV Channel 59 and has held communications roles at Purdue University and with the Indianapolis public relations firm Sease, Gerig & Associates. She was hired by the Indiana Department of Administration last year.
Triol is the second new communications staffer to join the Pence team since two highly publicized public relations blunders involving the state's new religious freedom law and plans for a state-run news site.
Pence's longtime congressional communications director, Matt Lloyd, took over last week as Pence's deputy chief of staff for communications and strategy.
Triol was an executive producer at WTHR in 2005 when she filed a lawsuit that alleged the station paid women less than male counterparts. After wrangling in court, which included a counter-argument by WTHR that Triol was among the station’s highest-paid employees, the two sides reached a settlement.
