As leaders of central Indiana’s largest health care systems, we are confident these challenges can be met head on by Indiana’s own Seema Verma, President Trump’s nominee for administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.
As one of the nation’s foremost health care innovators, she has a track record of addressing our greatest challenges in health care, forging solutions that bring together patients, providers, and good policy.
In Indiana, we have worked with Ms. Verma to design a Medicaid expansion program that extended health coverage to nearly 400,000 low-income, working Hoosiers. It empowered people to take greater responsibility for their health by providing incentives to use resources efficiently. Now, this innovative program has become a national model for other states.
We believe Ms. Verma is especially qualified to lead CMS and modernize its programs to increase the effectiveness of health care delivery. She brings the experience and, importantly, bipartisan solutions that unite people across the political spectrum in addressing some of the greatest challenges in health care. She has a keen understanding of patients’ needs.
The American people deserve high-quality, affordable care. As a nation, we must get our health costs under control while finding better ways to keep people healthy and encourage them to be active participants in their own care.
We’ve seen firsthand Ms. Verma’s ability to craft innovative ways to ensure access to care for vulnerable Hoosiers.
