Songbook Academy Finals

In its search for high school talent that can handle classic tunes, the Great American Songbook Foundation has once again winnowed applicants from around the country to a manageable field. Those can be heard in a free public masterclass on July 19 or in an equally free showcase on July 20. The ticketed finals, though, are when the best of the best show their stuff and this year’s Songbook Youth Ambassador is selected, leading to performances around the country. Judges this year include Eden Espinoza (Broadway’s “Wicked”) and opera star Sylvia McNair. July 22  Palladium Details

“J. Eyre”

Paige Scott, who crafted the crafty tunes for “The Great Bike Race,” penned this contemporary musical adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s “Jane Eyre.” It’s getting a world premiere production courtesy of EclecticPond Theatre Company. July 21-30  Grove House Details

400 Fest

Music starts at 7 for this two-night festival tied to the Brickyard 400. Headliners include The Chainsmokers (who scored a Grammy for Best Dance Record for “Don’t Let Me Down”), and Caribbean fusion trio Major Lazer.  July 21-22 Indianapolis Motor Speedway  Details

Brewtube Comedy—a web series offering stand-up comics at brew pubs around the country—stops in at Centerpoint Brewing Company July 19.

Vans Warped Tour, July 20 at Klipsch Music Center, includes American Authors, The Ataris, and dozens more acts. Dierks Bently follows on July 22 and Journey—with Asia—on July 23.

The Indiana State Museum opens “Science at Play,” an exhibit devoted to chemistry sets, July 21.

PopUp Opera offers a free evening of music at the Tube Factory July 21.
