A coalition of Indianapolis-area media companies—the United Media Network of Indianapolis—has formed to collect goods this week for the areas ravaged last month by the hurricane and tropical storm Harvey.

Dubbed "Hoosiers Helping Houston," the effort also is backed by several non-media sponsors including Buckingham Cos., Kroger, FedEx, The Salvation Army and Indiana Black Expo Inc. It aims to collect bottled water, diapers, baby wipes, juice and snacks, which will be distributed in the Houston area.

Hoosiers Helping Houston will be accepting donations from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday The items then will be trucked to the Houston area for distribution.

Three Kroger sites—5350 E Thompson Road, 5718 Crawfordsville Road, and 9799 E 116th St. in Fishers—will take donated items, in addition to Buckingham's offices at 21 E. Saint Joseph St. Local television and radio stations involved in the effort have agreed to periodically broadcast from the collection sites.

All the media members involved in the effort, including the Indianapolis Business Journal, have agreed to promote the initiative on-air, in-print and digitally.

"Victims of the storm need these important items, and we made it easy to pick it up and load it up," Gov. Eric Holcomb said in a public service announcement supporting the effort.

The effort also is seeking volunteers to help staff the drop-off points. For more information, go to https://www.hoosiershelpinghouston.org.
