World of Beer Bar & Kitchen’s first Indiana location, at 409 Massachusetts Ave. in downtown Indianapolis, is set to open Monday.

The establishment, located in the space formerly occupied by Mass Ave Toys, occupies 7,500 square feet over two levels—a bar and full-service restaurant on the main floor, and a second bar in the basement.

Local owner-operators are Addison Lusby of New Palestine and Brian and Staci Menzie of Greenfield. Lusby also operates a Pita Pit restaurant in Fishers, and the Menzies own several area Jimmy John’s sandwich shops.

The partners signed a franchise agreement last year. They have done extensive renovations to the property, transforming the former toy-store basement into a bar.

“We turned the entire 3,500 (basement square footage) into useable space,” Lusby told IBJ.

World of Beer plans to feature 300 beers, 50 of which will be on tap, along with wine and mixed drinks. Its menu includes appetizers, burgers, sandwiches and dinner entrees such as salmon and pork schnitzel, Lusby said. The restaurant also has a children’s menu, and the establishment will be “definitely family-friendly” during the daytime and early-evening hours, he said.

Assuming all goes well on Mass Ave, Lusby said the partners hope to open a second local World of Beer site, possibly in the Keystone Crossing area of Indianapolis or in Carmel.

World of Beer is a Tampa, Florida-based chain established in 2007. The company has more than 75 locations in 23 states, plus China and South Korea.
