Airport looking for college students to serve as greeters

Indianapolis International Airport is looking for a new class of “airport ambassadors,” those helpful volunteers
in the red vests who help passengers and visitors get their bearings.

In the past, many of the ambassadors have
been retirees, who have the time for the minimum of one, four-hour weekly shift. Now, the Indianapolis Airport Authority is
also seeking students in tourism/travel/hospitality programs, such as those at IUPUI and Ivy Tech Community College, and wants
to provide them internship opportunities as airport ambassadors.

Though positions are unpaid, there are perks, including free year-round parking
at the airport and the chance for gift certificates from high-flying joints such as the Skyline Club and Shula’s Steak
House.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Bilingual skills are “strongly desired” but not
mandatory, said the authority.

The airport’s human resources department is taking applications, and the
first training session and luncheon for ambassadors will occur toward the end of September.
