San Francisco-based Brightmark Energy announced Thursday it will break ground next month on the plant, which is expected to create 136 full-time jobs when it opens in 2021.
The company said the operation in the Steuben County town of Ashley will be the first of its kind in the United States and use plastics from curbside recycling pickup in Indiana and Illinois, and from manufacturing waste, the Journal Gazette reported. Ashley is about 30 miles north of Fort Wayne.
Initial estimates call for it to produce in its first year more than 18 million gallons of ultra-low-sulfur diesel and naphtha blend stocks and nearly 6 million gallons of commercial-grade wax.
