“Teshka’s bill is about student outcomes, he said. “In those communities where, where, there may be some additional challenges,” Teshka said. “How do we help those students to succeed and thrive.”
Student outcomes are not important to legislators. If it was about outcomes, they’d be taking the charter schools that work – and we should know that by now – and scaling up their models.
Instead we get this bill, which replaces the school board of IPS with a bunch of state appointees and blows up the central services of IPS … all of which will magically go away if IPS just continues to give more money up. Because, obviously, the best way to help students with challenges succeed is known by a bunch of appointees made by the governor.
IPS has shared money. IPS has embraced charters. They’re learning that dealing with the Indiana Legislature is like negotiating with terrorists.
Indiana Republicans should stop dancing around and just say what they really want their ultimate goal to be: The dissolution of the City of Indianapolis and turning Marion County into a State-run district.
I’d wonder how well they would take it if the nine county Indianapolis area decided to vote to leave Indiana because they were tired of their financial resources being sent to the rest of Indiana, where no one wants to live. (Just look at the census numbers.)
Marion county might be able to pull it off but the rest of the counties would not leave. the voters are stupid enough in marion county to do it.
