  1. There’s a Marion County Republican Central Committee? I thought it was nonexistent, much like the Indiana Democratic Party.

Exactly what Foust would be allowed to do differently given the limited resources of the office and the narrow scope in which the Indiana Legislature lets local officials do their job remains unclear. But it’s good for his political career, as it sets him up to be appointed to replace Senator Young.

    1. Freeman and Ireland, if they think they’re such great legal minds, should quit the Legislature and run for office themselves. They’re lawyers. Make the case that the best use of tax dollars is chasing down people for possession of marijuana, locking up the homeless, and going after women seeking abortions (which is what Republicans mean when they say Mears is “soft on crime”). Put it before the voters of Marion County. They’d lose by 30 points and make Carrasco look like a serious candidate, and they know it.

Soft on crime? Heck, the person that Republicans keep trotting out as their solution to Marion County is to bring in State AG Todd Rokita to have jurisdiction. The same Rokita who is currently more worried about keeping the downtown Heilport open for a fellow rich Republican than he is that the Secretary of State can’t stop breaking laws. That’s the solution of Marion County “crime”, Rokita? Heck, Lionel Hutz is a better lawyer than Todd Rokita!

  2. I agree that low level prosecution for possession of marijuana, locking up homeless and prosecuting women for choosing abortions is not a good use of the prosecutor’s time. But Mears is too quick to give someone a ridiculously short sentence for things like ignoring the fact that you have seizures; being told by your doctor you shouldn’t drive; yet driving anyway and killing two people is not doing your job. Letting criminals out on a low bond for gun crimes only to have them then kill someone with that same gun is not doing your job. Yes, they need to pick and choose which cases best warrant their time and budget dollars, but they also need to be protecting the public.

  3. If the folks in Indy and Marion County would just make an effort to choose candidates based on their platforms and policies, and not just the party, we could have positive change and improve our so called diversity in electing better candidates for offices. Straight ticket voting for the same old tired office holders will never allow for change or improvement. In this case it’s time to seriously look at Foust and consider what he says and does, and then vote for the best person for the job, not just the party. Mears has done his service and now it’s time for a change! A change that should improve our quality of life and help reduce our crime!

    1. Kevin, you’re projecting. You would vote for any Republican.

Go a click deeper than JM and second-guess those cases and show how a Republican prosecutor would have handled them differently. Don’t forget to include there’s a limit on how many people you’ve got money to lock up.
