Some of us remember, not too many years ago, when these same people (especially former Tea Party folks) were up in arms because New York wanted to limit the size options for fountain soda cups. What happened to the battle cries of “personal freedom” and “government overreach”?
If you’re paying for it then by all means you should be able to get what you want but if someone else is paying for it then I guess you need to go by the rules by the person that’s paying for it.
Rea seems to think that poor people don’t deserve to buy a little treat after a long day, like the rest of us get to enjoy. It’s not like these people have a separate fund sugary foods. If they CHOOSE to buy them, then they have fewer funds to buy the rest of their groceries. But today’s “conservatives” love to feign outrage at any behavior they don’t agree with that they perceive they “pay for” but never acknowledge that the alternative, not helping those in need, would be far worse for society. They also always see these people as freeloaders and can’t seem to understand that many SNAP recipients work multiple jobs and still can’t afford food for their families. It’s a selfish, miserable way to live and I’m thankful that I’m not afflicted with it.
When you’re on the govt teat you may need to cede to govt “overreach”. When beneficiaries become obese, diabetic and unable to ever provide for themselves, “overreach” may be in order.
I am shocked that this is even a debate! Non nutritious foods not allowed. Supplemental NUTRITIOUS Assistance Program.
I think we should give them the food instead of cash. End the debate.
