  1. The state tourism agency would be wise to be caution with raising the “perception” of Indiana to out-of-state visitors, lest the experience of Indians fails to meet the expectations created by the promoted perceptions. Like any business, the state needs to exceed expectations to really succeed. While Indianapolis is able to do that, our smaller cities and rural areas have fewer attractions (and thus fewer opportunities) to draw significant traffic and dollars to their locales. Hopefully additional budget dollars would be allocated to marketing research and testing before rolling out someone’s idea of a good appeal (and avoiding a repeat of the “Honest to Goodness Indiana” theme from the Pence years).
