  1. Cash-back rewards cards killed any interest I had in using cash for day-to-day purchases. Regardless, using the cost of minting a penny as an argument for killing it off is pretty silly — as if the US Mint were running a business instead of a providing a public service.

    If a nation’s economy needs a specific unit of currency to run smoothly, then a prosperous economy is worth the loss per unit incurred by the government. Sadly, our economy appears to no longer “need” the penny.

    1. It’s interesting because I am finding more and more business, especially small ones, are up-charging 3% for the use of a credit card.
