Whiteland Raceway Park is the nation’s oldest continuously operating go-kart track, the company said. K1 Circuit is the outdoor-track division of K1 Speed, which operates an indoor track in Fishers among its more than 100 locations.
“It’s an honor to take over the reins of Whiteland Raceway Park,” K1 Circuit CEO David Danglard said in a news release. “This venue is special, having been established in 1958, only two years after the invention of the go-kart. Our investment and expertise will help this historic track thrive, and we’re excited to build on its legacy while supporting the growth of the karting community in the Midwest.”
Terms of the deal were undisclosed. Inside INdiana Business has reached out to representatives of K1 Circuit for more information.
The track was owned by Andy O’Gara and his wife, Indy 500 driver Sarah (Fisher) O’Gara, who bought the raceway in 2018. Four years later they broke ground on a multimillion-dollar expansion, Inside INdiana Business reported.
The Whiteland facility is the second outdoor track for K1 Circuit. Its first outdoor track opened last fall in Winchester, California.
Earlier in 2024, Belgium-based private equity firm Verlinvest invested in K1 Speed to build on what it described as the expanding popularity of motorsports and kart racing, Forbes reported.
Verlinvest told Forbes that U.S. karting is valued at over $1.3 billion and is projected to grow 5% to 6% through 2027.
