Critics vs. Filmmakers

Tonight at 7 p.m., I'll be participating in what's being called a "Critics vs. Filmmakers Cage Match" as
part of the Indianapolis International Film Festival at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

I'm not sure what I'm getting into.

The free event, which was presented to me as a panel of filmmakers and film journalists, is now described as "…a bout
(err, we mean a lively discussion), looking at five of the more polarizing films in cinema history. We’ll be hearing
firsthand from experienced filmmakers ready to defend their craft, as well as representatives from the media armed and ready
to handle the critic’s perspective."

Hmm.

The question, I suppose, is whether or not the critic, by definition, sees film in a different way.

And whether those filmmakers who have anything positive to say about the critics are exclusively those who have had things
positively said about their by the critics.

I encourage you to stop by and see how this goes. And, while you are there, catch a film.

FYI: Some of my fest favorites still have upcoming screenings. You see the intense "One Hundred Mornings" Thursday
at 8:30, the beautiful and heartbreaking "Twisted Roots" Friday at 6:45 p.m., and the wonderful Cubs-fan documentary
"Ball Hawks" Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Find a full film fest schedule here. And read my thoughts on most of the fest films here.
