With a big hole to fill in upper level management and a new music director at the podium, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra is in almost as much of a transitional year as the Indianapolis Colts.

So what's in store for 2012-13 from our musical pro team?

The just-announced lineup includes maestro Krzysztof Urbanski conducting ten programs including expected forays into the repertoire of Polish composers. The season also incloudes more familiar works ("Rhapsody in Blue," "Pictures at an Exhibition," "The Rite of Spring") as well as a world premiere concerto by William Bolcom.

Pianists Emanuel Ax, Awadagin Pratt, Jean-Yves Thibaudet and others will take turns guesting at the keyboards. Former ISO music director John Newlson leads a concert. And classical guitarist Milos Karadaglic, violinist Daniel Hope, and cellist Sol Babetta all land ISO debuts. And opera great Thomas Hampson comes on board for a Mahler program.

And then there's Pops, with the musicals-in-concert format returning with the surprising-but-potentially-delightful choice of "Hairspray" (narrated by John Waters). Jane Monheit completes a triple crown of Indy venues, now adding Hilbert Circle Theatre to recent gigs at the Cabaret at the Columbia Club and the Palladium. "West Side Story" gets screened to ISO accompaniment.

And, well, there's Kenny G. But we can't have everything.

There's much more, of course (but no announcement of the host for Yuletide Celebration yet).
