A trip back in time to L.S Ayres, a pi party, and more on this week's A&E priority list

March 10, 2015

The weather's clearing and there's plenty to do. Here are my priority picks for March 10-16.

“You Are There: That Ayres Look”

Visitors will walk through the L.S. Ayres clock (if the reference is lost on you, ask someone with deeper roots in Indiana) into an interactive experience celebrating the fabled department store. Also in the mix: Costumed actors, historic objects, and, of course, the chrub (again, newbies, ask).

Music for All National Festival

The catch-all name is shorthand for a convergence of student musicians making up the National Concert Band Festival, The Orchestra America National Festival, the Sandy Feldstein National Percussion Festival, the Chamber Music National Festival, and more. Open-to-the-public concerts include the Jazz Band of America on March 13 at Clowes Hall, the Honor Band of America on March 14 at Clowes, and the Honor Orchestra of America March 13-14 at Hilbert Circle Theatre.

Pi Day Party

Not only will it be 3/14 on Saturday, March 14. But at a certain point in the evening it will be 3-14, 9.26. If you aren’t a math geek, that might not excite you very much. But performer Karen Irwin and a band called The Party are excited enough to stage a rocking event where, yes, pie is promised at the magical mathematical moment.

“The Search for General Tso”

The Indy Film Festival’s Film to Fork series continues with a documentary that attempts to find the roots of the Chinese-American restaurant staple. Dinner starts at 7:30 with the film to follow. Too short a notice for you? Plan ahead for the March 26th dining/screening with “The Trip to Italy” as its centerpiece.
