IDADA First Friday

There’s no shortage of arts activity on the First Friday of the shortest month of the year. At Indiana Landmarks Center, poet Mijisa and rapper Shami Futrell join a musical trio to augment work by sculptor Keith Bullock, assemblage artist Anthony Radford, and more.  The Stutz Art Gallery focuses on “What Makes the Heart Beat?,” showcasing people, places and things its artists find endearing. The Harrison Center’s “Follow Your Heart” pairs the work of artist couples. Circle City Industrial Complex’s M10 Studio features the Cuba-inspired work of photographer Eric Schooch and graphic artist Gary Schmitt. And that’s just the beginning.

“The Magnificent Seven,”

Forget “The Hateful Eight.” Drop back a number for some real cinematic adventure with “The Magnificent Seven,” the 1960  American western remake of Akira Kurusawa’s masterpiece “Seven Samurai.” In turn, “The Magnificent Seven” not only spawned movie and TV sequels, but also was science-fictionized in “Battle Beyond the Stars,” and goofily adapted into “Three Amigos,” animated into “A Bug’s Life.” It’s being screened at the IMA and preceded by Nerf target practice and cowboy crafts.

Cultural Cannibals’ celebrates with a Jazz Kitchen event featuring a samba band, dancers, a big-screen showing of the Rio de Janeiro parade, and a special Brazilian menu

The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra concludes its Cosmos Music Festival with a concert of music from “2001: A Space Odyssey” Feb. 4-6 at Hilbert Circle Theatre.

Saxophonist Joe Lovano and guitarist John Scofield, both also composers, team up for a Feb. 6 concert at the Palladium.
