There was a time, not too long ago, when the name Neil Simon was as close to a guarantee of a Broadway hit as any other. With an unprecedented string of hits—often running simultaneously—Simon was synonymous with stage comedy. His critical reputation grew with his autobiographical trilogy that began with “Brighton Beach Memoirs,” but apparently the urge to just make ‘em laugh wasn’t completely squelched. Hence, “Rumors,” his 1988 high-energy farce about four couples trying to put the lid on a possible scandal. Tarkington  Feb. 3-18 Details

“The Black Dahlia”

Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre offers the world premiere of this show, built around the famed unsolved murder case from 1947. Here, the story, which has been fictionalized in the past by James Ellroy, John Gregory Dunne, and others, is given a film noir treatment by choreographer Hancock and his dancers.Feb. 4-19 The Academy of GHDT  Details
