Film fest opens

April 24, 2008
The Indianapolis International Film Festival opened last night with a screening of the Sundance Film Festival hit “Son of Rambow.” I’d tell you more about this charmer, but since that was the only festival screening for the film, I’ll instead take the opportunity to encourage you to catch some of the still-to-play films.

Many of them have an arts focus. On Friday’s lineup, music lovers should groove on “Trying to Get Good: The Jazz Odyssey of Jack Sheldon.” Those interested in moviemaking and politics shouldn’t miss “Operation Filmmaker.”

Of course, some of us just like a good story with rich characters. For those, consider “Turn the River,” a very well acted, atmospheric story about a pool hustler and her son.

For more IIFF recommendations, see my story here. Look for more tips as the fest goes on.

And by all means, feel free to add your comments on festival films here.
