Lifestyle malls aren’t just for people anymore.
Officials at Clay Terrace in Carmel are working on plans to open a dog park on a vacant patch of land along U.S. 31, south of St. Vincent Sports Performance.
Details weren’t immediately available, but an application for new signage filed with the city this month includes a overview of the project.
The fenced-in canine playground would feature a tubular “doggie crawl” and an A-frame “king of the hill” climbing obstacle, along with benches for human chaperones.
Mall owner Simon Property Group offers a dog park in at least one of its other lifestyle malls: St. Johns Town Center in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Carmel community has been clamoring for just such a development. Earlier this year, the Carmel-Clay Parks board approved plans for the city’s first dog park, on two acres of land at 116th Street and Range Line Road. Construction is expected to begin next year.
What’s your take on Clay Terrace’s plans? Is Fido longing to spend an afternoon at the mall?
