Square Donuts signs lease in Carmel

Indianapolis’ Square Donuts franchise is growing, with plans to open a Carmel location within weeks.

A note posted Saturday on Square Donuts Indy’s Facebook page said the shop will operate in leased space at 14 S. Range Line Road, just south of Main Street in the Arts & Design District.

That storefront is currently home to Planted, which offers “fine garden design.” Plans for that business were not immediately clear.

Square Donuts, which briefly sold its tasty treats at nearby Greek’s Pizzeria in Carmel, expects to open the new location in mid-August.

It already has two Indianapolis outlets: at 1 N. Pennsylvania St. downtown and its bakery at 6416 W. Washington St.

Founded in Terre Haute in 1967, Square Donuts opened its first franchise in Bloomington in 2006. It also has a shop in Richmond.

In other Carmel food news, The Bridges mixed-use project along 116th Street between Illinois Street and Spring Mill Road could get another high-profile tenant: McDonald’s.

The Carmel Clay Plan Commission is expected to review a proposed site plan and design in September for a 4,700-square-foot McDonald’s restaurant with dual drive-though lanes.

The Bridges already is home to a CVS store and several small retail tenants, including Jimmy John's and Coalition Pizza. And as IBJ reported in December, the development also landed a Market District supermarket (Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle’s specialty grocery), along with a GetGo convenience store and fueling station.
