Grace Church moves forward with Fishers location

Grace Community Church is moving forward with plans for its Fishers location.

Construction started last month on the new facility at the southwest corner of 126th Street and Olio Road.

The church purchased the nearly 25-acre property last year after struggling to finalize deals at two other locations in Fishers—at 11201 USA Parkway and 106th Street just west of Interstate 69.

In May 2013, the then-Fishers Town Council banned “institutional” uses along the highway from 96th to 126th streets to keep organizations that don’t pay taxes, including Grace, out of the commercial corridor.

The new location at 126th and Olio is 1.3 miles south of I-69 and outside that banned area. The land is under two different types of zoning, so the church is requesting to rezone part of the property to make it consistent. However, church-use is allowed under both zoning regulations.

Grace has been using the Fall Creek Junior High auditorium for services at 12001 Olio Road in Fishers and operates its main campus on 146th Street in Noblesville.

Church officials told IBJ when it was purchasing property that a large portion of its members live in Fishers, which prompted the expansion.

The church is also planning to open a location in Bloomington in fall of 2016, according to its website.

The Fishers Plan Commission is scheduled to discuss the rezone request Tuesday.
