Roundup: Boone County jail to become distillery, Deer Creek Brewery opens in Noblesville

The old Boone County Jail in Lebanon could be serving food and drinks by early 2016.

The Boone County Jail Restaurant & Distillery will be located within the existing 10,000-square-foot structure at 104 W. Washington St. The basement will house the distillery and the top two floors will be used for the restaurant.

It is expected to open early next year. Owner Sean Stoller said he is waiting on state and federal permits.

In other news on adult beverage establishments, Deer Creek Brewery has opened in Noblesville. The 13,185-square-foot tasting room and brewery is located at 17661 Cumberland Road.

Samples, pints and carry out 64-ounce growlers and 32-ounce “crowlers,” which are carry-out cans, are available. Five beers are on tap, including Shady Amarillo Pils, DeerFly IPA, Cork Country Red Cream Ale, Oktoberfest and Count Hopula Imperial IPA.

The brewery is owned by Jeff Eaton, who has operated Barley Island Brewing Co. in downtown Noblesville since 1999.

In other northern suburb news:

• Big Red Liquors has opened in Westfield. The liquor store chain is located at 966 Tournament Trail. It is in the LOR Corporation’s retail development next to Bub’s Burgers.

• Speaking of Bub’s Burgers, the fast-casual dining establishment isn’t open yet, but the outdoor signage has been installed and hiring advertisements have been posted.

• Sonic Tan is opening at 5641 Pebble Village Lane in Noblesville near the Pebble Brook Village Apartments.

• Which Wich is expected to open in the spring at the Marketplace at Anson in Whitestown. It will be the sandwich franchise’s first location in Boone County. Five locations are open in the state, including two in Fishers and one in Carmel.

• The DoubleTree Hotel, located at 11355 North Meridian St. in Carmel, is changing to Homewood Suites. Both hotel chains are operated by Hilton Hotels & Resorts.

• Japanese restaurant Kukai Ramen & Izakaya is expected to open at 2450 E. 146th St. in Cool Creek Commons in Westfield. It will be the first location in Indiana. Three restaurants are located in Washington and one is in Oregon.

• Starbucks will open another 2,032-square-foot location in Noblesville at 16978 Clover Road to the west of State Road 37. The popular coffee chain has three other locations in the city.

• Wet Seal has closed its store at 13901 Town Center Boulevard in Hamilton Town Center. Evereve, formerly known as Hot Mama, will occupy the nearly 4,000-square-foot space. The designer clothing store geared toward mothers also has locations at Clay Terrace in Carmel and in The Fashion Mall at Keystone.
