Family-owned Georgetown Market completes nearly $300K in upgrades

April 26, 2019

Family-owned Georgetown Market at 4375 Georgetown Road recently completed nearly $300,000 in improvements focused on the store’s produce and deli departments.

“We needed to expand the offerings that we had,” said Store Director Andrew Montieth, whose father, Rick Montieth, started the business in 1973. The store is in the International Marketplace district on the city’s northwest side.

Georgetown Market invested about $275,000 in the upgrades, which took place over the past year or so and were completed this month.

The first phase of the project involved adding new produce cases and expanding produce offerings to include more convenience items such as salad mixes and pre-cut zucchini noodles. Produce sales have increased by 40 percent since those upgrades were completed last year, Andrew Montieth said.

In the deli department, the store added a salad bar, expanded the juice bar, added more sandwiches and remodeled an in-store eating area for customers.

The owners also painted the store's exterior and added outside lights and security cameras.

The Local Initiatives Support Corp. provided Georgetown Market with a $198,000 loan through the federal Healthy Food Financing Initiative program. Through this loan program, LISC provides low-cost financing for projects that increase community access to healthy foods.

LISC also provided Georgetown Market with a $13,200 matching grant for its façade improvements.

The grocery will host grand re-opening activities through Saturday to showcase its upgrades.
