WellPoint yanks controversial letter

Californians are howling over the recent discovery that one of WellPointâ??s units made a practice of asking doctors to report
conditions that the insurance company could use to cancel medical coverage for new patients.

The letter amounted to asking doctors to â??rat out the patients,â?? Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said. The medical community complained
that such disclosures would isolate the very people who need medical care the most.

Blue Cross of California announced today
that it would stop the practice, just a day after it was outed by the Los Angeles Times.

Did the company cross an ethical line by sending the letters?
