Indy Wholesale Direct, a luxury car dealership that opened in 2011, is relocating from Carmel to a $4 million, two-story building to be constructed in Zionsville.

Indy Wholesale Direct, operating as Wheat Holdings LLC, will build its 28,000-square-foot showroom and headquarters on two acres at the intersection of West 106th Street and Bennett Parkway in Zionsville.

The auto dealership at 519 Industrial Drive in Carmel specializes in high-end and exotic cars and sells about 100 cars a month. Its inventory includes Audi, Acura, BMW and Cadillac as well as used cars that are more affordable.

The new building will house office space for the dealership’s eight employees and the auto inventory.

Ben Wheat, president of Indy Wholesale Direct, said the dealership has outgrown its space in Carmel. He lives in Zionsville, which is why he chose to relocate there, he said. The lot where the dealership will be built was for sale and fit the needs of the dealership, he said.

In addition to storing cars, the dealership will also have a small area with billiards, foosball and a lounge. The building will also have space for car service and detailing.

The Zionsville Board of Zoning Appeals recently approved a set of development standard variances that will allow Indy Wholesale Direct to operate a commercial business at the site.

Wheat said once the ground thaws after winter, construction will begin, with the building opening next summer.

“We’re extremely excited to get going,” he said. “It’s going to be a beautiful facility.”
