Report: Swarbrick headed to ND

It looks like Indiana University can scratch one of the candidates for its soon-to-be-vacant athletic director position off the list.

Late yesterday, word began to spread that Indianapolis attorney Jack Swarbrick is a candidate for the Notre Dame athletic director position. Today, citing sources close to the school, Irish Illustrated is reporting that Swarbrick is Notre Dame’s man.

Swarbrick had been rumored to be a candidate to replace IU’s Rick Greenspan when he resigns Dec. 31.

Swarbrick, 54, has connections to both campuses. He is a 1976 Notre Dame graduate and a former Irish lacrosse player. He is a Bloomington native, growing up in the shadows of Indiana University.

Swarbrick, a partner with Baker & Daniels, has a pedigree in sports business and administration that has made him the focus of several athletic director searches, including Ohio State and Arizona State. Swarbrick also was a finalist for the NCAA presidency that went to Myles Brand.

Swarbrick was central in helping lure the NCAA headquarters to Indianapolis and landing the 2012 Super Bowl for Indianapolis.

Not everything Swarbrick has been involved in has been a success. He was CEO of LmiV, an ill-fated Internet venture that networked participating radio stations. The venture tanked after three years.
