UPDATE: Details could make, break ExactTarget IPO

December 17, 2007

ExactTarget Inc. will need to reveal much more about its $86-million initial public offering before analysts and investors can accurately assess the value proposition, one expert said today. The Indianapolis-based e-mail marketing firm hasn’t disclosed details including the number of shares available and the price per share; that information probably won’t be forthcoming until February, […]

Clarian hospitals in Avon, Carmel turn corner after big losses

December 10, 2007

Clarian Health officials say the only way they can keep operating their medical centers downtown is to support them with profitable
suburban hospitals. So far, it seems Clarian is on the right track. As Clarian moves forward with a new, $180 million hospital
in Fishers, its two existing suburban hospitals are starting to make money.

Commentary: Of Blue Cross and Blue Chip

November 26, 2007

WellPoint CEO Angela Braly must be thinking to herself, “Enough with the most powerful and influential stuff already!” In the course of the last several months, Braly has been named the 16th-most-powerful woman in the world-that’s in the world-by Forbes magazine, one of the 19 mostinfluential women in central Indiana by IBJ, and the top woman to watch by the Wall Street Journal. That’s heady stuff, to be sure, but I know for a fact that her two school-age daughters…

Fiercely private developer built strip-center empire

September 24, 2007

Sid Eskenazi fell in love with the board game Monopoly as a child. Buying and developing make-believe properties with make-believe money inspired the grade-schooler. And he was good at it. So several years later, Eskenazi began playing what he likes to call “adult Monopoly.” He bought one property at a time with real money.

4 beds, 2 baths and a billboard

June 19, 2007

If you’ve driven north on Delaware Street toward 16th, you’ve seen this billboard. But did you notice the Herron-Morton home behind it? The house is for sale, and it’s one of the most interesting listing I’ve seen in a while….

April 20, 2007

Never fear, White Castle fans. The downtown location at 16th and Illinois streets, which is closed and surrounded by a fence, apparently will soon serve sliders again in a shiny new White Castle building with nicer landscaping. Changes are coming…

Condos offering live/work space are hot

April 9, 2007

The age-old concept of living above your workplace is catching on again in Indianapolis, just as the developers of Douglass
Pointe Lofts had hoped. The $2.65 million landmark at 25th and Delaware streets already will soon also be known for a diverse
roster of local businesses.

Century-old landmark building gets new life as condos: Former Ashantii Ballroom renovated into 11 units

November 6, 2006

He lived in the south Broad Ripple house 11 years, rented it out for another 11, then sold it for three times what he paid for it. Today, McMichael, 43, owns a dozen rental properties around Indianapolis, plus the well-known Rathskeller Restaurant downtown. And recently he’s turned his real estate eye to 16th and Alabama streets where he’s converting the former Ashantii Ballroom into luxury condominiums. “I learned years ago with that first house the power of real estate,” Michael…

Student sponsorship deal raises money, criticism

September 11, 2006

The Indianapolis office of Zurich-based UBS Financial Services Inc. is experimenting with “adopting” the freshman class at Herron High School as the UBS Scholars of 2010. Its foundation made a $100,000 gift to the startup charter school, and local employees made a commitment to tutor, mentor and otherwise support its first 92 students.

Born again: Old churches gain new life as commercial space

October 10, 2005

God may be eternal, but His houses aren’t. Congregations expand, move or fade away. When they leave a house of worship behind, sometimes they find a different congregation to take over the brick-andmortar expression of their faith. Sometimes they don’t. In the latter case, finding a new life for churches and temples-often solidly built and packed with unique architectural details-can be something like working a miracle. But a handful of developers have managed to give new life to old churches,…

April 4, 2005

A local investment firm hoping to capitalize on a resurgent near-north side is planning a 50-home, privately funded redevelopment project in the blocks surrounding Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park. Homevestors LLC, led by husband and wife Jerry and Carole Jaquess, has applied for city approval to build 50 single-family homes between 16th and 22nd streets just south of Fall Creek Place. “It’s the next logical area” for redevelopment, said Jerry Jaquess, a general contractor. Jaquess’ partnership is not affiliated…
