The president is hoping to do even more to promote electric vehicles, including a provision for a $7,500 tax credit for consumers who buy electric vehicles through 2026 that’s been floated as part of his proposed $1.85 trillion social services and climate bill.
The donation, from the Eli Lilly and Co. Foundation, brings the project’s fundraising total to $27 million. The total project cost is estimated at $30 million.
Anita Harden, retired president of Community Hospital East, will guide the local cultural organization while it evaluates its long-term strategy.
Lilly Endowment’s $500,000 gift will help fund needed maintenance to the historic building on Indiana Avenue. Center directors say the theater needs a new HVAC system, in addition to electrical wiring, lighting and sound equipment.
Terry Whitt Bailey, former director of Muncie’s Cornerstone Center for the Arts, will join the Madame Walker Theatre
Center in Indianapolis April 12 as president and CEO.
