Michigan-based auto components maker Lear Operations Corp. plans to invest more than $2.2 million to expand and upgrade its
manufacturing facility in Hammond, adding more than 285 jobs this year.

State economic development officials announced the expansion plans early Tuesday.

Lear, a Fortune 500 company that makes seating and electrical power management systems, already employs about 160 at the
Hammond plant. It expects to begin hiring immediately as its manufacturing line is retooled to make seating for the Ford Explorer
SUV that roll off Ford Motor Co.’s Chicago assembly line later this year.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered Lear up to $1.7 million in performance-based tax credits and up to $57,000
in training grants.

Lear also is eligible for additional tax incentives—including a loan interest credit, employer and employee wage credits
and property tax deductions—because its facility is located in a so-called enterprise zone in the northwest Indiana
city.
