A military procession at the Indiana War Memorial was a highlight of a Fourth of July parade in 1944. The memorial plaza, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989, has played host to many civic and military events through the years, especially on the Fourth of July, Veterans Day and Memorial Day. It also is frequently used for athletic and recreational events.
