Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard on Thursday appointed new directors for the Department of Public Works and the Department of Parks and Recreation.

Lori Miser, executive director of the Metropolitan Planning Organization, will succeed David Sherman at the DPW starting March 19. Sherman plans a return to the private sector.

John W. Williams will succeed Indy Parks Director Stuart Lowry, who also is leaving for the private sector. Williams is deputy director of DPW’s Solid Waste Services, Fleet Services and Environmental Waste Collection and Disposal Services. His new job also begins March 19.

The appointments of Miser and Williams have been submitted for approval by the City-County Council. Such approvals are typically a formality.

Ballard also submitted the appointment of Jason Kloth for the new position of deputy mayor of education and the reappointments of Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Michael Huber, Deputy Mayor for Neighborhoods Olgen Williams, DMD Director Maury Plambeck, Public Safety Director Frank Straub and Department of Code Enforcement Director Rick Powers.
