The former Indiana governor's contract with Purdue gives him a $420,000 annual base salary. He can also receive 30 percent more, or $126,000, based on factors such as graduation rates, student affordability and fundraising.
Daniels told WLFI-TV of Lafayette he believes fundraising is a particularly important area for improvement. He said the student tuition freeze that started last year means Purdue has to try to fill that revenue gap.
Daniels said Purdue also needs to do better of tracking how much students learn during their time at the school.
The university trustees are expected to decide on Daniels' incentive pay this month.
