Indianapolis businesswoman and philanthropist Carrie Petty has been named executive director of the Indiana Republican Party.

Indiana Republican Party Chairman Jeff Cardwell said in a written statement he chose Petty because her “tremendous passion for helping people, experience as an executive leader and long history of community involvement will be valuable assets to our team.”

Cardwell was named party chairman in March.

Petty has more than 20 years of experience working in the public-private sector. She served as chairman of the board of Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana from 2010 to 2012 and executive director of Hamilton County Habitat for Humanity from 2007 to 2009.

She is vice president of Petty Custom Homes, a business she and her husband started in 1994. She was also the business development officer for City Mosaic Partnership, a not-for-profit that helps to end poverty by connecting churches and communities.

Petty replaces Rachel Jacobs, who had been in the post since October 2013.
